What determines the value of an Inro?
The value of an antique Japanese Inro depends on several factors.
These may include:
Artist or workshop,
historical period,
quality of lacquer,
decorative technique,
complexity,
subject,
construction,
number and condition of compartments,
signature,
originality,
condition,
associated ojime,
associated netsuke,
provenance,
storage box,
rarity,
collector demand.
An elaborate design does not automatically mean that an Inro is valuable.
Quality of execution, authenticity and condition remain essential.
