    At the beginning of 2025, Supein Nihonto had the honour of attending a special cultural and institutional event at the Japanese Cultural Center in Paris, located just a short distance from the Eiffel Tower.
    The invitation was extended by Mr. Akinari Takehisa, Mayor of Setouchi City, in collaboration with Mr. Ninomiya Etsuro, Financial Counsellor of the Mission of Japan to the European Union and representative of the prestigious Kitamae-bune Organization.
    The event brought together Japanese government representatives, craftsmen, cultural institutions, and industry professionals with a shared goal: preserving and promoting traditional Japanese craftsmanship on the international stage.

    The mission of the Kitamae-bune organization

    The Kitamae-bune Organization is a major cultural initiative composed of representatives from twenty-three Japanese prefectures.
    Working under the broader vision of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba for regional development and cultural preservation, the organisation seeks to strengthen the international presence of Japan’s traditional industries while supporting local craftsmen and artisans.
    Its mission is particularly important today, as many traditional crafts face increasing competition from mass-produced goods and changing consumer habits.
    By creating connections between Japan and international markets, the organisation helps ensure that centuries-old skills remain economically viable for future generations.

    Discovering contemporary japanese craftsmanship

    Setouchi and the legacy of bizen osafune

    Setouchi occupies a special place in Japanese sword history.
    For centuries, the region has been home to the legendary Bizen Osafune School, one of the most influential and celebrated traditions in the history of Japanese sword making.
    Many of Japan’s most important historical blades were forged in Bizen, and the area continues to play a significant role in preserving the art of Japanese swordsmithing today.
    The exhibition highlighted this historical legacy while showcasing the work of modern craftsmen who continue to uphold these traditions.

    One of the most valuable aspects of the visit was the opportunity to participate in discussions regarding the challenges currently faced by traditional Japanese craftsmen.

    Tameshigiri demonstration by Kanzaki Masaru

    A highlight of the event was an impressive live Tameshigiri demonstration performed by Kanzaki Masaru.
    Tameshigiri, the traditional Japanese art of test cutting, demonstrates both the quality of the sword and the skill of the practitioner.
    Watching a master swordsman perform precise cutting techniques provided a powerful reminder that Japanese swords were never intended merely as decorative objects but as highly sophisticated functional works of art.
    The performance offered guests a deeper appreciation of the relationship between craftsmanship, martial tradition, and practical application.

    I had been looking for a tachi with a lot of curvature for a long time and I called Supein Nihonto. They didn't have any tachi with the sori I was looking for, but I was treated with a lot of love and professionalism and we were talking for a long time. The next day I received a call from the shop, telling me that they had received new swords and that there was a tachi with a lot of sori. That same afternoon he already had a lot of photos of the sword and its measurements. I found the price good, especially if I compared it to other Spanish sellers of Nihonto. The shipment took a day and the package arrived in perfect condition, as the person in charge of the packaging puts a lot of effort into the work and the result is a strong packaging.
