    What are Fuchi and Kashira?

    The Fuchi and Kashira are fittings associated with the handle, or Tsuka, of a traditional Japanese sword.
    The fuchi forms the collar near the tsuba, while the kashira forms the fitting at the end of the handle.
    They were often designed as a matching pair and could feature sophisticated decorative metalwork.
    Common subjects include:
    Samurai, animals, birds, plants and flowers, landscapes, mythological creatures, religious imagery, family crests, scenes from Japanese, history and literature.
    Although originally functional sword components, fine fuchi-kashira are also collected independently as examples of Japanese metalwork.

    A Fuchi and Kashira that were created as a matching set can have particular collector interest.

    Sometimes Fuchi and Kashira remain mounted on an original or historical Koshirae.

    What photographs should i send?

    For a Fuchi-Kashira set, please send:
    Front of the Fuchi, back of the Fuchi, both sides, interior, signature or inscriptions, front of the Kashira, back and sides of the Kashira, detailed photographs of the decoration, associated Menuki, if present, storage box, NBTHK or NTHK papers, any other documentation.
    Use neutral lighting where possible so that the metal surface and patina are clearly visible.

      I had been looking for a tachi with a lot of curvature for a long time and I called Supein Nihonto. They didn't have any tachi with the sori I was looking for, but I was treated with a lot of love and professionalism and we were talking for a long time. The next day I received a call from the shop, telling me that they had received new swords and that there was a tachi with a lot of sori.
